Gamifying climate impact forecasting to engage SMEs with sustainability products
SMEs play a critical role in achieving our net-zero targets, but getting this diverse group to adopt sustainability practices is challenging, especially with limited time and resources. BSI, the UK’s national standards body, asked us to help develop a solution that would make sustainability more relatable and actionable for SMEs.
Strategy rooted in research
The cornerstone of our approach was in-depth research into SMEs' challenges, attitudes, and needs, ensuring our strategy would resonate with businesses in a meaningful way. This research laid the foundation for the development of an interactive experience that connected directly with SMEs' day-to-day realities.
From there, we created an interactive game that allowed businesses to experiment with decisions based on their own situation and see how those choices could impact emissions and energy bills, making net zero feel more real and relevant.
Bringing the campaign to life
The game was just one part of the story. Around it, we developed a comprehensive marketing strategy, designing interactive infographics and tools that brought the campaign to life. Together, these elements helped SMEs easily navigate the campaign, connect with BSI’s support, and take practical steps toward a more sustainable future.
Taking the time to really focus on the purpose and the objectives of what we were trying to achieve has paid dividends, and the output is much stronger as a result.
