Looking back at the last year, our third in business, it would be easy to write a piece about the rollercoaster ride of trying to survive, let alone grow, during a global pandemic. But I will spare you the drama.
For starters, it’s mad to think that our last birthday blog covered a lot of the COVID stuff. But, more importantly, I’d rather keep this short and snappy.
The good
- We’re all healthy. We’ve learned to appreciate that more and more.
- We’re back in the studio.
- We’ve grown. Doubled in size, in fact, which was… interesting during lockdown.
- The people we’ve brought on board are ace, and luckily it turns out they’re very good at remote learning.
- We’re refined what we’re doing, focusing more on only saying yes to the right projects.
- Realising how liberating working from home can be.
- We had a good hard look at whether we could be doing things more simply – leading from the front, if you will (you can read about that here).
- Cornish pasty consumption went down.
- We welcomed the first Luna 9 baby!
The bad
- We now share the office with the plants, rather than the other way around (It’s like that part in Jumanji with the greenery climbing the walls).
- Realising how limiting working from home can be.
- Lots of projects had detours, false starts and their plugs pulled, as the ups and downs of the pandemic kept everyone on their toes.
- Cornish pasty consumption went down.
- Our shared office campus feels a little emptier than it did before.
The downright weird
- Handshake etiquette – the first world problem of doing new business in the post-pandemic age.
- Multiple people on the same Zoom call, in the same room, doing a mute/unmute routine isn’t a great look. 18 months into the online revolution and we’ve still not mastered that.
- Seeing people from the shoulders down for the first time having known them for a year.
- People calling you on the actual telephone.
So, what’s next?
Whatever happens in the year ahead, we’ve certainly got a lot to look forward to. We have another new recruit joining us later this month, and the prospect of seeing more of our clients and partners in person is a joy.
I hope you can look back on this turbulent year as fondly as we can, and I look forward to keeping you posted with our progress along the way.
Let’s go!
